Solid wood flooring is always a more desirable choice because it is longer lasting and durable. It also comes 
in a variety of different widths and thicknesses; usually between 2-1/4” and 5” wide with a standard thickness of ¾”, however, we also offer wooden flooring with a thinner profile of just 5/16”.
The thinner (5/16”) boards can be installed directly on top of concrete making it a convenient choice for areas on ground levels; whereas, the thicker (¾”) boards cannot be installed in this way and would have to be suspended.
An important thing to bear in mind when buying solid wood is that it can expand and contract in different temperatures; this can cause gaps between the boards in colder periods of the year.
Karndean Flooring
A solution to the problems temperatures can have on wood is to invest in Karndean luxury effect flooring, which includes a range of wooden flooring effects to choose from.
Engineered WoodEngineered wood is an alternative to solid wood and usually ranges from between ¼” to ¾” thick. The nature of engineered wood makes it more stable and less prone to warping and contraction.
Laminate Flooring
Laminate flooring consists of different layers - such as, the wear layer, image design layer, inner core layer and the backing layer. The wear layer protects the surface from wear and stops any fading from due to sunlight. The inner core layer usually consists of a plastic resin called melamine, which is added to give it durability and strength. A backing layer is also added to prevent warping and to prevent water from being absorbed into the laminate.
